I Hate Chores!

Today’s challenge on 30 Days of Lists is to list chores I actually enjoy.
My answer is:
NONE
NOT ONE
Nope, nothing
I used to enjoy baking, but a) my husband dislikes homemade bread, especially for his sandwiches; b) my daughter didn’t care either and c) I can’t eat much of any baked goods, especially if I want to keep my weight down.
I enjoy the end result from cleaning the house, but bitterly resent it while I’m doing it.
Cooking, groceries, laundry, and vacuuming are all so transitory. I make a big sacrifice of my time to get them done and as soon as I finish, they’re already unraveling. It’s the same thing with yard work, picking up dog poop, and paying the bills. It never gets finished and it never stays finished.
Chores soak up time, take away from fun and passions, and give very little in return.
So ends my rant for today. And my comment about yard work never staying finished? It for sure doesn’t stay finished when a beagle decides there’s a mole to be found.
[Later note – a few weeks after this, I actually cleaned the house as part of nurturing my creativity. What a strange change in events! You can read about it here.]

Chores sounds so negative….how about we make a game out of it? Well, I try that with the kids. They don’t buy it either.
Ha ha ha! I think you hit the nail on the head!
I like the vintage look to the kitchen items. It looks like the beagle enjoys his labors.
Thanks for the compliment! The beagle thinks it’s great until he gets yelled at. He’s certain that the problem is that I just don’t get it.
Love it!!! I can’t say I love chores. I don’t have dog poop to pick up (thankfully). I do have 2 cats and 3 litter boxes. As soon as I clean the box, wouldn’t you know, one of them has to do “business”. If I have the carpets professionally cleaned, within 72 hours, there’s a tiny hairball.
I had three cats for a while – two for many years – and that was exactly what they did to me too. The dogs are just as bad. Scoop the yard and while you’re throwing it out, they’ve already pooped again. Clean the floors and someone has to pee it up that night. It never ends!
If the moles leave, there are worms and grubs….Molly! Once the grass which covers so much dies in the winter we might as well lease out the backyard for movie sets of moonscapes…
With you on the enjoyable chores..
True, the moles do serve a purpose. When we were in Omaha, we had a even more trouble with moles. The beagle dug up so much of the front yard that yes, it looked like a moonscape (and that was exactly how we described it all those years ago). He had craters everywhere. He did kill a fair amount of moles though. More than our neighbors got with their traps.
Yes, also hate chores! I agere with photosfromtheloonybin – I’d rather be reading! Ellie
:)
I agree – I’d rather read than anything else! I think we need to plan a revolt against chores.
I agree also. With fall in the air the desire to bake is returning. I have found a solution to baking but not eating too much of the results. There are community lunches for the food insecure and they accept batches of cookies from me.
That’s a good way to enjoy baking without eating much of it. I used to take it into work, but they’d rather have the candy dish.
I couldn’t agree more. How dare something take me away from reading!!
That’s right! A book is far more important than a clean house!!
As I get older, I am realizing more and more how true that is. Life is short – do what makes you happy :).
Yes, and having a dirty house doesn’t make me as unhappy as it used to either!
Me neither :)
They never stay done. These chores would be so much easier to bare/bear if they remained done even for a fraction of time!
I think you hit the nail on the head – I wouldn’t mind the chores so much if the floor wasn’t already a mess by the time I put the vacuum away and ditto for the kitchen after I’ve cleaned it up. It just doesn’t last long enough for all the effort.
I agree, I hate chores too. Hubby does all the vacuuming, thank heaven. We moved to an apartment to get away from yard work.
I sometimes wonder if we didn’t make a mistake not getting a townhouse instead of a regular home, although with my hubby’s photography and art shows, we really need the extra room. But yeah, chores are the pits.
