Happy New Year!

As 2012 ends and 2013 begins, I leave you with this thought from the author, Neil Gaiman (found here on Goodreads):

“I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes. Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You’re doing things you’ve never done before, and more importantly, you’re Doing Something.

So that’s my wish for you, and all of us, and my wish for myself. Make New Mistakes. Make glorious, amazing mistakes. Make mistakes nobody’s ever made before. Don’t freeze, don’t stop, don’t worry that it isn’t good enough, or it isn’t perfect, whatever it is: art, or love, or work or family or life.

Whatever it is you’re scared of doing, Do it.

Make your mistakes, next year and forever.”

It’s been a good year and I will miss 2012.  2013 beckons though, whether I am ready or not.  Enjoy your evening – tell those around you that you love them whether you make it to midnight or not – drive safely if you are on the roads.

Happy New Year!

  1. Beautiful picture to go with an inspiring perspective of life, “I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes. Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You’re doing things you’ve never done before, and more importantly, you’re Doing Something.” Happy New Year!

    • Thanks and Happy New Year to you also (I think I said that already, but that’s okay).

I’m really taking this quote to heart and look forward to lots of experiments and mistakes in 2013!

  2. I have many plans for mistakes to be made. Not least attempting to paint…!

  3. Wonderful, and Happy New Year! Ellen

  4. I didn’t think I was going to make it to midnight, but I did! Happy New Year. Off to make some mistakes!

    • We made it to midnight this year mostly because we’d been on vacation all week, practicing staying up until the early hours of the morning and taking a nap every afternoon! Enjoy your mistakes, but watch out for those little birds glaring at you. Gosh they look like they’re ready to take you on!

  5. Have a wonderful new year!

    • Thanks Butch, and the same to you & your wife as well. I’m glad to see you’re still reading my blog.

  6. Happy New Year! Thanks for all of your fabulous photos and posts. You’ve provided a daily smile and helped me fall in love with our new “hometown” of Richmond.

    All the best for 2013!!

    • I left a comment over at your blog – I had no idea this is where you were moving to! I’m so glad you kept reading my blog and it helped make the transition a little easier.

Happy New Year to you also!

  7. Happy 2013 to you, Nancy! Hope it is filled with much joy and many adventures with your ‘boy toy’! *hugs* K

    • What a wonderful sentiment to start the New Year! I hope 2013 is the same for me and you both! Thanks – as always – for the blessings.

  8. I really like this quote! Great way to live. Thank you for sharing it with your readers.

  9. Great quote!! Happy New year my friend!

  10. Happy New Year, Nancy. It’s going to be brilliant and I’m so excited. New beginnings, a clean slate, a fresh start, new hopes and dreams and, yes, probably lots of mistakes, but no regrets. Someone once said to me: “Don’t ever worry about making mistakes, because that will only serve to stunt your progress.” Abundant blessings to you, my friend.

    • Oh wow Lizzie, what a great note – thank you so much! I’m putting that one into my diary.

Blessings back to you as well – by now you’ve seen the New Year come in!

  11. Oh yes! Make a mistake and learn something new. Here’s to an exciting 2013

    • I’m glad you liked it – I thought it was a great way to look at making mistakes. I agree with your sentiments on 2013 – I hope it is exciting!

  12. Thanks for the quote. Neil Gaiman is a great author and I’ve read many of his books. Looking forward to a new year.

    • Thanks Mary – I’m glad you liked the quote. I’m leaving 2012 with regrets – it was a good year and I really liked it. My husband says there’s no reason to think 2013 can’t be better – a good perspective for me.
